A selection of Original works, prints and cards by Bonnie Coad.
I was born in 1974 while my parents traveled around the world. They chose New Zealand’s West Coast when they decided to settle down. I grew up in a rainforest beside the sea. It was a wild wonderland. I revelled in the freedom, riding horses, swimming all summer and building beach huts. When it rained I would draw, model imaginary worlds with modelling clay and make up tunes on mum’s old piano. People said I was good at these things but I never thought I could be an artist one day.
I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up.
The experience of exhibiting changed everything for me. I painted every spare moment of the day and night. When I wasn’t painting I was reading art books. I did night classes. I experimented with styles and techniques. I desperately tried to make up for lost time! In 2012 and 2013 I was granted scholarships to undertake a Diploma in Art and Creativity.
It was during my studies that I settled to working in mixed media collage and developed my current series of work, my Pattern animal art works. I’ve come a long way, and it’s been a lot of hard work but now at least I finally know exactly what it is I want to be when I grow up! An Artist.
