Creativity for me is simply the act of making something new. I think back to when I was a child, picking Tea Tree flowers from the base of Mount Tarawera and painting them and creating flowers from sheep’s wool, when in the shearing shed, making dough bread creatures in the kitchen with Mum. Now my creativity is expressed through ceramics. When I first tried the potter’s wheel I felt it did not fit with who I was. Handwork is what I love and nothing captivates me more than when I make figurines. The world is blocked out when I create them. It makes me happy which is what I feel life should be. "Do what makes you happy".
While visiting a Gallery in the South Island, I was inspired by a display of feathers. I later looked in the bible and it said in Psalms 91 v 4, He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your Armour and Protection. I continue to make them for myself and others, knowing there is a beautiful promise behind the feathers. Nothing captivates me more than creating figurines.
